Scenes of campus featured in "Paint Washburn" exhibit and auction

TOPEKA -- “Paint Washburn,” an exhibit of 36 Art en Plein Aire pieces created by 33 artists on the campus of Washburn University, will be on display at the Mulvane Art Museum Sept. 8 through Nov. 15. The exhibit and artwork are part of Washburn’s sesquicentennial celebration.

The exhibit will open with a reception for the artists from 5 to 8 p.m., Friday,
Sept. 7.

The works in the exhibit will be available for silent and live auction during the Paint Washburn Auction from 7 to 11 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 17 in Memorial Union, Washburn campus.  Admission to the event is $50 per person and the evening includes music, appetizer and dessert stations and live and silent auctions. 

Proceeds from the auction will support a permanent, commissioned art piece in recognition of Washburn’s sesquicentennial celebration. The deadline for reservations is Nov.  2.  Contact the Washburn Alumni Association at 670-1641 for further information and to make a reservation. 

The Mulvane Art Museum, ArtLab and gift shop are open 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday; 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday through Friday and 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.  Admission is free. The museum is closed major holidays.

The Paint Washburn Art Auction is one of a series of events leading up to Washburn’s sesquicentennial in 2015.
