The Center for Teaching Excellence and Learning (C-TEL) seeks to promote excellence and innovation in teaching and enhance student learning at Washburn University and Washburn Tech.
We work collaboratively within the university community to develop and sustain a university culture that values and rewards teaching in all its forms and venues, respects and supports differences among learners, and creates enriched learning environments in which diverse students, faculty, and staff can excel. We act as a resource for the university community by offering a wide array of research-based programs and services that support teaching. We serve as a catalyst for university-wide dialogue that fosters a shared vision of teaching excellence and learning-centered education at Washburn and Washburn Tech.
We are happy to roll out programing for our first year of operation. Programing for each month of the 2014-2015 academic year will be organized around one of our Pillars. During each month we will host workshops, Wednesday Webinars, Mentor Mondays, speakers, and Teaching Circles. We hope that you like what we have developed for you!

Beef up your CV or resume with a Certificate of Teaching and Learning. This certification program is orchestrated by C-TEL and provides a structure for you to focus your professional development activities over the course of an academic year. When you complete the certification program you will be able to document, and be recognized for your participation in C-TEL sponsored activities. You need only attend six (6) C-TEL workshops, webinars, speakers, or other events during the 2014-2015 academic year. At the end of the school year C-TEL will sponsor a campus wide event where faculty and staff have an opportunity to process and reflect on their learning. Join us! Registration for the Certificate of Teaching and Learning program will be available soon.
This program is open to all faculty and staff and we anticipate that this program will be especially appealing to individuals working toward tenure or promotion; adjuncts and lecturers looking for documented professional development; or anyone interested in the craft of teaching.
